San Francisco Snapshots

by Sara on May 6, 2013

Greetings from the bay!

I’m officially in love with this city.

Exhibit A:

Most amazing cappuccino ever.

Exhibit B:

Sushi-ritto. Get it? Sushi + buttito = sushiritto!

Exhibit C:

Warm buttery cinnamon roll. Gluten free and in-cred-ib-le.

Are you detecting a delicious food theme here yet!?

Oh, but there’s more to love than just the food. I mean, look at this…

and this…

and this.

 San Francisco (43)

I had a BLAST sipping, suppering, sunning, snacking, shopping, socializing, sushi-ing, Cinco de Mayo-ing, and cinnamon rolling my way though the city over the weekend, but I’m not finished yet. 😉

Today is my last day in San Francisco (tear!), so I’m going to make the most of it by visiting a place that’s been on my bucket list for years. I’m not holding back—I’m seizing the opportunity to LIVE, enjoy, and indulge.

I’ll be back with more words on Wednesday, but until then, enjoy these (non-chronological) snapshots from Saturday and Sunday!

Two hour long tea date with my “blend,” Gina, at the Ferry Building. She’s even more beautiful—inside and out—in person (if that’s possible!)

Reunited with my childhood (and newly engaged!) best friend, Michele!

<3 <3 <3

San Francisco, I love you. I don’t think I’ll ever leave.

Have a marvelous Monday, friends! Today I encourage you to remember that every single day is PRECIOUS. Go out and LIVE . Don’t wait for tomorrow. Do it TODAY. Make the most of what you have, where you are, right NOW.

(p.s. I suggest you start by visiting the other MIMM posts at Healthy Diva Life! 😉 )

I want to know…

If money wasn’t an object, where would you move tomorrow?

I think you already know my answer. 😉 Option 2 would be either San Diego or somewhere in Switzerland!

Have you ever been to San Francisco? What’s your favorite city?

I lived in the Bay Area until I was 10, so I might be a little biased when I say that SF is my favorite in the U.S. Outside of the U.S., I love London and Berlin!

This or that:

Cinnamon rolls or chocolate-filled croissants?

Frozen yogurt or ice cream?

  • Tara @ Sweat like a Pig

That sushi burrito thing sounds amazing!! Pret a Manger have come out with something similar but I haven’t tried it yet.

Hmmm I think London is my favourite city, but it’s hard to say because I live here. I love Paris and Amsterdam too but I don’t know if I’d want to live in either of those cities. Rob’s cousin lives in San Fran so we’ll definitely be making a trip there when I finally get my butt over to the US!

    • Sara Stewart

The sushiritto WAS amazing! I want to try to create it at home, however seeing as that I’ve never been able to roll regular sushi successfully, I think I’ll just visit SF whenever a craving strikes. 😉

I agree—London really is one of the best cities in the world. That’s why I’m coming this summer!! <3

  • Jessie

Please take me along w/ you next time you visit San Fran! I’ve never been there, and am currently in aw of how amazing it is!!!

    • Sara Stewart

I’m coming back in a few months! Book that ticket, babe!! <3

  • Jessie

Funny thing: we just commented on one anothers page at the SAME time!!

    • Sara Stewart

Haha, I was JUST laughing about that!! Love ya, girl! <3 xoxo

  • Lucie Pfaendler

I love everything in this post!! I am so jealous on your trip to that fab city! The food looks heavenly, ALL of it. Oh, and WHO’s that guy??? :-) If money wouldn’t be an issue, I would be in San Diego NOW. I absolutely love it. And you could meanwhile take care of my homes in Switzerland mmk?

    • Sara Stewart

Umm, we have a deal! I will take care of your homes in Switzerland ANY day! However, I want to live in San Diego, too, so how about we split the cost of an apartment in CA and trade off? Oh, but wait, then I’d never see you! It would be a zillion times more fun if we were in the same place at the same time! <3

  • Natalie

I LOVE San Francisco!! No city in the US is prettier, and no city has better food! It looks like you really lived it up, Sara! I want a bite of everything in this post…especially the sushiritto! Omg. That is such a creative idea! The cinnamon roll and burger look really good too. Ahh, I want it all. Can’t wait to hear more!

If I could move anywhere, it would probably be somewhere in California as well. I used to live in Orange County, and loved the weather there. I could also see myself in Seattle which is funny because the weather there is completely the opposite.

Cinnamon rolls all the way! And I actually like the consistency of frozen yogurt better than ice cream :)

    • Sara Stewart

I totally agree–San Francisco definitely takes the prize for food and beauty! I used to live in Orange County, too–how funny! Oh, and frozen yogurt consistency definitely trumps ice cream! I think ice cream tastes better, though 😉

  • Sophia

So jealous!!! So beautiful! So delicious! Wow looks like such a wonderful place- I am Definetley meeting you there eventually! Just must happen lol if money was no object- I think San franscisco looks amazing or Paris or Sydney Australia is breathtaking apparently! But I think Paris really is my favourite city- that I have visited (only once- gosh I wish had the resources to travel more!!) but I am very open to changing my mind- I can’t wait to visit New York and California (and Greece, Spain…..) Paris is amazing though and the food- the FOOD :) Love you beautiful girl xo Sophia

    • Sophia

oh my and chocolate croissants- pain au chocolat, And gelato- I have never had frozen yogurt- something I must remedy xo

      • Sara Stewart

Okay, I think we’ve determined that we need to travel the world together, Sophia!! I’d LOVE to go to Sydney! Afterward, we can hop over to Greece and Spain (with a stop in Italy–you can show me your beautiful country!), then Paris, where we’ll eat chocolate croissants. :) We’ll finish in the US (NYC, and San Francisco!). Sound like a plan?! Hugs! <3

        • Sophia

That sounds like THE perfect trip! Sara and Sophia take the world- I bet we would have even more fun then Gwenyth and Mario 😉 I would love to share the food and culture with you! Hugs Sophia

  • Khushboo

So I’ve never been to San Fran but I’m starting to think I wanna skip the visiting step and just move there all together…it looks like a dream :)! Glad you are having a blast and enjoy Bi-Rite Creamery i.e. heaven! After indulging in some Haagen Dazs over the weekend, there’s no question about it for me: ice cream>fro yo any day! The chocolate fiend in me rather have choc croissants over cinnamon rolls but the latter isn’t far behind!

Enjoy the rest of your trip & safe travels home, Sara!

    • Sara Stewart

Thanks, girl! I would totally support your move to San Francisco; in fact, since I’m seriously thinking about moving here, let’s be roommates! We could eat amazing Bi-Rite ice cream every single day. 😉

  • Natalie @ Lift,Sleep,Eat

Ahhh wowww! This makes me want to go to San Fransisco even more now..looks amazing & how beautiful do the houses look! Major swoon haha!
Looks like you’ve been having an amazing time, that David’s tea looks delicious and that burger..yum!
I have absolutely no idea where I would move to; there’s so many places in the world that if money were no object I just think I’d go travelling for a while and “live” in certain places for a couple of months before moving on.
I don’t think I could choose a favourite city to be honest; I’ve only visited a few places in the U.S – New York, Orlando & Los Angeles..loved them all for different reasons though! Outside of U.S…Paris, and in the UK actually where I live Newcastle!
    Cinnamon Rolls > Chocolate Croissants
I can’t choose between fro yo & ice cream as I have yet to experience fro yo properly :(

    • Sara Stewart

I LOVE the idea of “city hopping”–the best way to really know a city is to live there! When I move to San Francisco, you have a free place to stay! <3

  • Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl

It looks like you are having a fabulous time in San Fran! I am so jealous!! I would LOVE to see the Full House houses! What can I say..I used to LOVE that show.

And…zucchini chips? Seriously? Those sound amaaazing!

    • Sara Stewart

I’m a major Full House fan, too!! I would die and go to heaven if I could live in a home with that view. Amazing! The zucchini chips were SO good–kind of like kale chips!

  • Sam @ Better With Sprinkles

Glad that you’re having a fabulous time love! I’ve never been to San Francisco, but it’s high up on my list of places to visit. Hopefully sometime in the next couple of years!

    • Sara Stewart

If I move here, you’ll have no excuse NOT to come! 😉

  • Brittany Lesser

Oh my gosh, I am so jealous!!!! I am dying to go there! It looks amazing, and it looks like you had the best time ever!! <3

    • Sara Stewart

Girl, you need to get yo’ bum out here! xoxo

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin

It sounds like you’re having such a fun trip – and San Francisco looks amazing! I would love to visit there someday. The Ferry Plaza farmer’s market, shopping, and food all sound so good! If money wasn’t an issue I would love to live in California for a while – but not permanently. My heart is in Ontario!

    • Sara Stewart

You’d LOVE it here, Chelsea!! Almost all the food is sustainably and locally sourced!

  • Kristen RD, LD

Wow! I haven’t been to SF since college. This post has me wanting to book a trip asap. That cappuccino looks fabulous!
Congrats to your newly engaged friend!

    • Sara Stewart

You should definitely come back for a visit!! It’s not too far from Las Vegas–a perfect weekend trip! You’d love all the amazing food, too!

  • Lillian_SeizeTheLatte

Wow, this all is incredible! The food looks *amazing* — and I just about fell out of my seat when I saw that GF cinnamon roll. Holy gawd, I need one of those in my life! :)

I’m so glad you’ve been having such a lovely trip — it’s much deserved!

    • Sara Stewart

Oh my gawd is right! That cinnamon roll was pure bliss! There are so many great GF bakeries here; it made me realize that DC is seriously lacking! Want to open one with me?

  • janetha

mmmm i love san fran! it’s so delicious!

  • Krista

Wow that looks like such an awesome trip! Everything looks so beautiful!

If money wasn’t an option I would move to Europe. Not sure where…maybe Santorini? Rome? Edinburgh?

Cinnamon rolls. Definitely. And froyo. No doubt. Can’t beat adding my own fun toppings!

PS- I am going to Blend Retreat!

  • Lisa

Looks absolutely beautifullll there!! Seriously loving your photos, so bright and pretty!
Your trip sounds like so much fun, Blends are always a good time:D I always find meeting bloggers, that they’re so much more awesome in person. I guess it’s just meeting them which makes it more real. Like when we met :)
I need to go to San Fran! I want to visit the Full House house, obviously.
Hm, I’ve only had fro yo once, but I wasn’t a huge fan so I’d go with ice cream.
    Love youuu!

  • HealthyDiva

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I want to be YOU! All these amazing pics! Luluemon, amazing sushi burrito style, those kale chips, that froyo, and more! I am so glad you had a wonderful time! I wish I could of went with you!! The tops you got at lulu look super cute!!! Share more of what they are!

    Love you to pieces!!! <3

  • Dixya Bhattarai

I have never been to San Fran but looks so pretty! And that sushirito is so creative!! I loved all your adventured pictures :) and chocolate filled crossaints any given day.

  • Gina Topley

Love! I can’t wait to hear about all your other SF adventures! :-) <3

  • Maria Tadic

I love San Fran! It’s so beautiful and the food is awesome and the healthy culture there is unbelievable! I can’t wait to go back! Looks like you’re having an awesome time!

  • Miss Polkadot

Aaah, the places you’ve been to, the people you met, the weather the food – it seems like San Francisco made every effort to ensure you had an amazing stay! How comes every of your weekends seem just perfect? I may or may not be getting a little jealous here ;).

Having never had a cinnamon roll so far – they’re just not popular over here – I’ll go with chocolate croissants which I’ve had my fair share of during my childhood. You obviously know my answer to the last question already: Ice cream all the way!

At first I was a little disappointed you didn’t say you wanted to move to Germany but naming Berlin as one of your favourite cities saved you ;). Any ideas on when you’ll visit again? We’d totally have to meet :)!
    Happy Monday, Sara!

  • Cait

oh my goodness, where is that cinnamon bun from? and the sushi burrito? I can’t stand the yumminess!! mmm!

  • kolya

OH I love croissants in any form and gosh fro yo vs. ice cream is an impossible choice. Health-wise fro yo but there are so many great flavors in icecream and I like that it’s a bit firmer and thicker.

SF is on my bucket list and I may actually be going there this summer (From DC actually…what are airfares like these days from DC or b’more?) to visit my 91 yr. old aunt!

    FUn, fun, fun

  • Ashley @ AlmostVegGirlie

Love love love San Fran! I haven’t been in a few years, but I’d love to go back and explore the city some more. Plus I know they have a ton of vegan restaurants and I’d be totally down for some delish food!

Honestly, if I could live anywhere it would either be somewhere in Cali along the coast or in Phoenix AZ (where I was born). I need me some warm weather year round! And I love the big city vibe.

  • Jess @ JessieBear

    omg everything seriously looks AMAZING!!

  • Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola

Omigosh it looks like you had such a fun time out here! I can’t even tell you how disappointed I am that I wasn’t able to join you- I’m still sick in bed as I write this!! But it looks like you did your trip here RIGHT! Is that a Mariposa cinnamon roll I spy?! They are the BEST! And where did you find those zucchini chips?!? I want, I want!! I hope you come out here again soon (TO STAY hint hint!) and we can play then!! Let’s chat soon! xoxo

  • Devon @ Health in Equilibrium

So many “likes” for this post! Sushiritto=pure genius. Gina=jealous. Ghiradelli=take me there right now. I am also IN LOVE with chocolate rocket tea; just obsessed.

  • Anna Smith-James

That cinnamon roll looks ah-mazing. I’ve never had a cinnamon roll in my life! I feel like I need to rectify this IMMEDIATELY. I doubt I’d find one as yummy as that though.
Ahh all these pics remind me of my holiday in San Francisco so long ago…I remember seeing all those beautiful buildings and saying to Ben “I want to live here. Can we live here??” It’s just so picturesque for a city.
Zucchnini chips?? These sound incredible. I hope they tasted good.
I am so jealous of that salted caramel David’s Tea. It sounds divine. Though I always get disappointed with flavoured tea as it never tastes quite as good as you hope it will.
Hmmm if I could live anywhere I think I’d live somewhere in America…like California for it’s beautiful sunshine! I do like living the UK but it feels very small and cramped at times. We don’t have as much space as you guys!
I love Berlin as well. My best friend lives there so I get to have free holidays there quite often :)) I wish I could speak German as that would be a great place to live. It’s so easy to get around and it feels very cosmopolitan.

  • Rach

Looks like a wonderful time and some delicious eats! Though, the sushiritto is definitely unique, haha! And oh my goodness those houses make me think of Full House! Glad you are having fun!

  • Sally

Love love love all the photos! Wish I’d been there with you…but so glad you had such a super time. Sounds like the perfect weekend getaway! My favorite city?…hint…you and I think alike!! Blue Bottle lattes are the best!!

  • Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel

drinking coffee like me I see. but yours look WAY better. and it seems like you had fun in san fran. I wanna make my way out there one day.

  • Heather Powers

Ohhhh, who’s the hottie with you in the last pic??!

Sushi-ritto!! Haha! LOVE it! And I swear, you always find the BEST looking scallop dishes! Ahhh! Why do you have to torture me?

This or that: Cinnamon rolls ALL THE WAY!! And definitely fro-yo…of the self serve variety only…so I can go absolutely NUTS with the toppings! 😉

I went to San Fran 2 summers ago! I only got half a day in the city and really really want to go back to see more, but I had the best time while I was there! I traveled alone for the first time, went on a bus tour and saw the GG Bridge and Sausalito, and dined at a nice restaurant while people watching! Oh, and guess what I had to eat! SCALLOPS!!! 😀
