Four List Friday

by Sara on January 18, 2013

Hey-yo! Happy Friday, everyone! What are your plans for the weekend? The next four days will be ca-rrraaaazy in DC due to the presidential inauguration madness that’s about to ensue. This impacts me in two major ways:

1)    Longer-than-usual coffee lines.  Who am I kidding? They’re always long. But if I remember correctly, they were out the door during the last inauguration 2009. Yikes.

2)    Visitors!

Both Ashley and Stephie will be in town this weekend, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Since I’ll be dodging tourists playing tour guide in the city for the next few days,  I have lots to accomplish today! Sooo, let’s get crackin’….

Four Lists on Friday. (inspired by this lovely lady).

Four  Things I Did Yesterday

1. I waited in a not-too-crazy (yet)-long Starbucks line to satisfy a crazy strong mocha craving. I honestly can’t remember the last time I ordered a mocha. Maybe high school? I ordered mine with soy milk and without whipped cream, but this is what I got.

Nooooo. However, instead of requesting a re-make, I rolled with it. A little energy whip to get me ripped? I say so! ;)

2. I made these cheesecake pancakes for dinner, except I substituted raspberries for the blueberries, and added coconut butter on top. So good!

3. I bought a new lip gloss. Except it’s a lipstick too. A two in one! :) One of my gripes about drugstore makeup is that you can’t test it before making a purchase…that is, unless you discreetly tear the plastic wrap while nobody’s watching. ;) Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this! Either way, I’m loving my new bargain-priced Jumbo Gloss Balm by Cover Girl (after testing, I went with Coral Twist).

4. I spent two hours searching online for a dress to wear to the inaugural ball, before realizing that if I ordered one, it wouldn’t arrive before Monday. I’m gambling on finding one at the mall today. Wish me luck!

Four Recipes I Need To Make

1. Two-Ingredient Creamy Garlic Broccoli via Happy Healthy Life (hummus is the secret!)

2. High Protein Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls via Texanerin Baking.

3. Sweet Potato, Kale, and Chicken Patties via Multiply Delicious.

4. Tomato and Feta-Stuffed Chicken via Eat Live Run.

Four Things I’m Looking Forward To

1. Attending the aforementioned official inaugural ball Monday night!

{source}

2. Visiting my favorite DC bakery with Ashley this weekend. Their cupcakes and gluten free blondies are to die for.

3. Beginning a new strength-training program with Stephanie Miller. She’s a popular lady, so I have to hold steady for two more weeks, but I know her expertise is well worth the wait.

4. Planning spring trips! I have an airline credit on Virgin America, so I hope to visit my brother in San Francisco, and these two ladies in Canada!

Four Why Didn’t I Think of That Tips (ninja’d from Alexandra’s pin board)

1. Instead of spooning icing into a bag, try filling it this way!

2. “Hard boiled” eggs in the oven. According to cooking master, Alton Brown, this is the best way to do them. Easier to peel. Creamier texture. Need to try this!

3. Crispy hashbrowns without added oil…in the waffle maker!

4. I lied. I don’t have a fourth. But how about we go with this tip….

Make your weekend wonderful!

Thank you so much for reading, and for being wonderfully you.

xoxoxo

I want to know…

What’s the last thing you bought?

How has your coffee order changed since middle school or high school?

What are four (or one or two or three) things you’re looking forward to?

Woo lots of fun stuff in this post and lots to look forward to, especially the inauguration ball and new trainer! Hope we get to see photos of the former :) ! I just clicked over to Stephanie Miller’s page and she looks ripped. There’s nothing like a new plan/change of workouts (and eating) to make things interesting again. Excited to read about how you get on with her plan!

A few things I am looking forward to include:

-Taking part in my first official race this Sunday
    -Breakfast with a friend post-race
    -Another friend’s hen night tomorrow
-Starting a course on Health Control and Disease Prevention

Wow now that I write it down, there’s lots to look forward to – life is good, eh :) !

Have a wonderful weekend with your visitors and be sure to eat lots of gluten-free blondies & cupcakes :) !

It sounds like you have a FUN weekend ahead, my dear! Enjoy!! I can’t wait to hear about your race, breakfast, and your friend’s hen night (or as we say in the States, a bachelorette weekend!) :)

last thing I bought= rice crisp

looking forward to get out of the house today after a week of rainy days, eat some korean food, groceries shopping, the last weekend of maternity leave!

Enjoy your last weekend of maternity leave! I’m so glad the sun is shining today so that you can enjoy being outside!

I am totally going to try eggs in the oven! If it works thats genious! I lived in DC 4 years ago for the last inaguration and it was CRAZYYY!

    • http://www.nourish-and-flourish.net Sara Stewart

It really was crazy during the inauguration, wasn’t it?! They’re saying it won’t be nearly as bad this year, but I’m still preparing myself! Happy Friday!

  • http://onehealthymunchkin.blogspot.ca/ Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin

I haven’t had a mocha in forever either! Those were never my favourite though. My typical Starbucks order in high school was always a chai latte! Now I tend to roll with vanilla rooibos tea, an Americano with soy milk, or a vanilla latte.

    I’m looking forward to:
    1. Being done with my internship and grad school applications
    2. Going out for my friend’s birthday tomorrow night
    3. Restaurant week
    4. You visiting!!! :D

    • http://www.nourish-and-flourish.net Sara Stewart

I used to LOVE chai lattes, too! It sounds like you have lots to look forward to–especially finishing school (you’re almost there!). And of course, my visit, too. ;) Have tons of fun at your friend’s birthday party this weekend!

You inspire me!! <3 And yes, we will take massive amounts of pictures this spring FOR SURE. Love you <3 xoxo

  • Devon @ Health in Equilibrium

Love this post! I definitely needed that icing tip during gingerbread season. Good for you for rolling with the whip too. A little while ago, I would have sent that back immediately, but I’m getting much better at rolling with the punches now

    • http://www.nourish-and-flourish.net Sara Stewart

Yeah, the whipped cream incident was a bit scary–won’t lie! ;) However, it felt wonderful to roll with it…and nothing bad happened! :D

  • Kimberley Pike

I have to try that broccoli!! I’m heading to WF in a bit. :) Let me know if you try cooking eggs in the over…never ever heard of that! Good luck with your dress search…my fingers are crossed for you. xo

  • http://www.cleaneatingveggiegirl.wordpress.com/ Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl

Holy cow is all that I have to say about that broccoli and those cookie dough balls. I am pretty sure if my co-workers could have seen how big my eyes got when I saw those pictures they would be laughing at me ;)

  • http://lisalately.com/ Lisa

Long lines make me stabby, but I’ll suffer through them to get that precious coffee! Yay for visitors! Jealous. I should totally try and come to Ontario the time you go too. My Grandma lives there and I’ve been trying to plan a trip to see her that would be super cool. Mmm..I need to try the creamy broccoli recipe. It looks so good. Actually, all the pinned food looks delicious. That’s so cool you’re attending the inaugural ball in Monday! Neat! Oh yes, I used to only order hot chocolates in high school, no caffeine ever. Now obviously, I’m all about the americanos.

  • Taylor Be

How are you affording your personal training sessions? Aren’t you a student? You always complain about money? Also, why are you doing personal training sessions, are you getting married or are you training for a fitness competition? How long are you going to train for?

    • Taylor Be

      Are yous eeing anyone?

  • http://www.cottercrunch.com lindsay cotter

OMG to all three of those Why Didn’t I think of that Tips! lol.. pinned pinned and pinned

  • http://www.runningwithspoons.com/ Amanda @ .running with spoons.

LOVE that you just rolled with it after they messed up your order! Situations like that can be anxiety-provoking as hell for those of us who’ve struggled with disordered thoughts in the past, and being able to adapt to them just shows how far you’ve come. Hope you’re super proud of yourself, hun <3

And speaking of coffee, my order has changed A LOT since high school – I wasn't even drinking coffee back then! I actually hated the taste of it, and only started drinking when I started needing the extra energy to study in university. Back then it was basically milk, sugar, and a little bit of coffee flavoring. Now? I don't even mind drinking it black. Loooove.

  • http://twitter.com/juliegohealthy JulieGoesHealthy

I’ll have to try that with eggs!

  • http://jessielovestorun.wordpress.com/ Jessiejoshua21

What a fun weekend you have ahead of you. Yay for upcoming spring trips. I”m sure you three girls will have a fabulous time together. I’ve never heard of making HB eggs that way, but I’ll have to give it a shot.. especially since I eat at least 2 a day :) .

&& to answer your question the other day, I’ll be visiting D.C Saturday, March 16th. Get ready girl!!!

    • http://www.nourish-and-flourish.net Sara Stewart

I am already ready!!! Can’t wait! Happy weekend, love! <3

  • http://twitter.com/theloveofkale Heather Waxman

OKAY. So, I’ve been having major withdrawals from your blog. I’m so sorry I haven’t commented. I’ve really been trying to chill out with social media and focus on creating! I love you. <3

Anywho, I honor you for rollin' with what you got at Starbucks – like a pro, yo. Can I hop in your suitcase to Canada? K thanks. Also, I'm so jealous that you get to go to the ball!!! How exciting.

    • http://www.nourish-and-flourish.net Sara Stewart

Absolutely NO worries, Heather! I feel exactly the same way about your blog. <3 It's so hard to keep up with everyone, but know that you're in my thoughts frequently–and I truly mean that. Whenever I eat a fantastic vegan meal, I think, "Heather would love this!"

Please join me on my trip to Canada?! Pretty please?! <3

  • http://savortherainbow.com/ Min

Sounds like you have such exciting plans!! Have fun with all the lovely ladies!! I wish I can travel…Say hello to Ashely for me! I’m very intrigued by the concept of making hard-boiled eggs in the oven. r early?!?! But if Alton Brown says so that it must be Good Eats!!
I’m looking forward to spending a lazy weekend with the hubby and my black shadow ;)

  • http://twitter.com/HealthHairHope Carley Baghai

Looks fun filled! Ahh those cookies look TO DIE FOR. Okay maybe not but close.

The last thing I bought was a margarita. Before that, school stuff.

My coffee order has changed since my current residence (AZ) doesn’t have Caribou coffee. So nowadays its Starbucks blonde roast!

I’m looking forward to my cousin visiting in 2 weeks, one year anniversary cruise in 4 weeks and familiy visiting sporadically thereafter!!

    Have a good weekend!

So I just recently heard about “boiling” eggs in the oven and I think it’s BRILLIANT! And it’s so cool that you get to go to the inaugural ball!

  • http://letthemeatkaleblog.wordpress.com/ Mandie

You absolutely have to try that broccoli recipe. I’ve made it before, and it’s amazingly delicious. But really, is there anything hummus doesn’t make better? It looks like you have quite a fun week ahead of you. Enjoy going to the inauguration and your favorite bakery. Please have a gluten-free treat for me :)

  • http://Www.annatheapple.com/ AnnaTheApple

Ahh all those recipes look so good. I especially like the sweet potato patties. Need to try that!
I hate having whipped cream on my coffee, it cools it down the drink waaay too quickly!
The last thing I bought was a lovely jumper but it one of those jumpers that isn’t actually that warm so I need to wait until the temperature gets a bit warmer before I can wear it :(
Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend and it’s not been too crazy :)

  • http://twitter.com/swankydietitian Kristen RD

Just one more reason I need a waffle maker! Love that idea!
Love the new lipstick/gloss! That color is too pretty! I hate when I can’t try on the shades either. I have done that a few times and then I get home and don’t love the shade.

  • Thehealthyapron

Love those white pants!! And I want to try those cookie bites too! I have them pinned! Hard boiled eggs in the oven!? WHAAA!? I’m on it! THanks sara!
