Grocery Aisle Adventures, Macadamia Nut Kisses and Fitting Into a Bridesmaid Dress

by Sara on July 20, 2012

Happy Friday, and greetings from Idaho!

I’ve been in Boise visiting my Mom since Wednesday, and have lots of fun news to share!

What could be more fun than one-minute coconut chocolate chip cookie dough?

Topped off with this newly-aqcuired gem.

And you thought I’d spent the past two days filling my tummy with potatoes.

I mean, that’s all people in Idaho do, right? They farm potatoes and eat potatoes.

Pffsh. Yeah, I used to think so too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

However, yesterday I discovered a natural grocery store that was filled with a crazy-exciting selection ofย  non-potato culinary shenanigans.

I could have been in and out of there sooner, had I not stopped every five seconds to take photos, but I was over-the-moon with excitement and needed to document my finds to share with you. :)

an entire aisle of nut butter!

Among those items was the aforementioned peanut butter, which I opened upon arriving home. The first taste was done as all first tastes should be–straight up, by the spoonful.

I then made two-ingredient cookie dough which contained two tablespoons of coconut flour, a teaspoon of mini dark chocolate chips, and a few drops of stevia. Okay, I know that’s three ingredients, but two sounds more wow-worthy.

What really brought the wow though, was that coconut peanut butter. Friends, this stuff is amazing. There’s no way I’m going to be able to ration it like a lady.

While I was shopping, I found a few other note-worthy items:

**Dark Chocolate Stevia**

This bottle cost only $4-something. I bet it will make a fantastic mocha, when added to coffee.

**Ginger Juice**

From the back of the bottle: “Ginger juice has endless uses, from a quick splash in your tea, to stir fry, soups, fish, vinaigrettes, sauces, marinades…”

Ingredient list: organic ginger, citric acid.

I tried the ginger juice in my tea last night, and it was incredible! I also provided a fun zing to my dinner salad. I’m looking forward to incorporating it into fish or chicken marinades.

**Rise Almond Honey Protein Bar**

I’ve been making and eating lots of Pumpkin-Coconut Protein Bars lately, but this is officially my new favorite packaged bar.

Only three ingredients? Yes please!

I sure hope Rise bars come to DC soon!

**Nut butter travel packets**

Artisana makes butters out of nearly every nut on this earth. I snagged five on-the-go packets: walnut butter, cashew butter, raw almond butter, coconut butter, and cashew-coconut butter. I wish I could share these with this girl. ๐Ÿ˜‰

**Theo Dark Chocolate Salted Almond and Dark Chocolate Coconut Bars**

Both of these are bars are amazing. And addicting.

*******

In other news, look what I found en route to Boise in the Salt Lake City airport!

If Pinkberry were in every airport, there’d be no angry travelers! Pinkberry makes people happy.

When I arrived at my mom’s house, I found these Hawaiian goodies were waiting for me.

Macadamia nuts, a beautiful necklace that went un-photographed (thanks, Mom!), and these…

Hershey’s, you need to start selling Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Kisses in the mainland! I can’t afford to travel hundreds of miles to get my fix.;)

BRIDESMAID DRESS AND WEIGHTY ISSUES

My best friend from high school, Katie, is getting married next summer, and I’m going to be the maid of honor. A week ago, Katie called me to let me know that the bridesmaid dresses were on sale for just a few more hours. I quickly ordered my dress and prayed for the best.

[source]

I had the dress sent to my mom’s house, since I’ll be seeing lots of Katie while I’m in Boise. She hasn’t seen the dresses in person yet, so I figured it would be fun to show her.

Yesterday I tried it on and quickly realized I had a problem.

Don’t let my smiley face deceive you! ๐Ÿ˜‰ While I love the color and style (perfect for Katie’s sunny personality!), the dress is a bit snug around the torso and boobies. And by a bit snug I mean, I can barely breathe.ย

I ordered the dress one size larger than I thought I’d need, but apparently these dresses run super small. I can’t return the dress because it’s a sale item and JCrew is completely out of stock of the size I need. Gulp.

My plans to pack on at least 5-10 more pounds of muscle next summer don’t bode well for fitting into this dress! I’m praying that a seamstress will work some magic and make it 2-3 sizes larger. If not, I’m not sure what will happen. But I am sure that I won’t back down on my bodybuilding goals. Nor will I diet to fit into a dress that I’ll be wearing for one day!

So let’s forget the dress stress for now and focus on the shoes. :)

With kicks this cute, who needs a dress anyways? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a WONDERFUL weekend! Love and hugs! <3

Questions for you:

What grocery products are you loving/eating right now?

Chocolate with nuts or no nuts?

If you’re married, what were your wedding colors? If you’re not, what colors do you think you’ll use (if that day comes, ha!)

IF that day comes for me, I’ll probably pick yellow, pink and orange!

If you’ve ever been in a wedding, did you love or hate the dress you wore? Share your stories!

I am in love with the wedding shoes! So awesome! I get so excited for new grocery finds too! and an aisle of nut butter!!! What could be more exciting :) I love that cookie dough recipe! I will be trying that out asap!

  • Nicole

Oh nut butter heaven-I just knew you existed somewhere! Aaahhh…

That dress is such a pretty color!

Yes, Pinkberry sure does make people happy!

My wedding colors were burgundy & gold…we had a traditional Hindu wedding.

Cute dress! You can’t tell that you can’t breathe in the pic :) I just ordered my bridesmaid dress for my sister’s wedding – it’s long, black and flowy, so I shouldn’t have any fit problems I hope! I’m also going to be in Avi’s wedding in October and am wearing a black satin dress for that – I guess my people like black! I’m wearing lime green shoes with that dress and just got them in the mail yesterday :) I’m getting so excited about my fall weddings! And my sister’s bachelorette party is next weekend!

everything about this post is amazing… especially that isle dedicated to nut butter!! my jaw literally dropped, and then i almost started drooling when i saw those hershey macadamia nut kisses!! I think I just wanna visit Idah because of all of that!!

… that dress is beautiful. I’m sure you can find a seamtress to work their magic :)

  • Sally

Welcome home! I’m so glad you’ve found all those treasures in Idaho (they’ll keep you coming back! haha!!). I knew I needed to pack some mac nut kisses in my suitcase for you…maybe a good reason for my annual trips to Maui! Fingers are crossed that JCrew finds another dress! Love the color and style. Who was the great photographer? (haha!)

  • http://www.clairetherd.com/ claire @ live and love to eat

Love those Tom’s – I have them in off-white! I’m sure the dress will work out – I always have extra room up top, if you know what I mean! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • http://www.sweatlikeapig.com/ Tara @ Sweat like a Pig

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever drooled so much in one post…. all those nut butters and bars and cookies look amazing!! Maybe it’s because I’m starving right now, so it’s not helping.

The dress is so pretty! But you absolutely cannot diet down for it! I wear a bigger size than I used to, even though I’m leaner than I was a few years ago. It’s my big lats and chest!

I had an absolute nightmare with my wedding dress. I ordered my dress and it fit me perfectly, but I had to get one alteration, and the seamstress decided to add a panel into my dress without asking. I had moved to the other side of the country and my mum had picked my dress up. When I went home six weeks before the wedding (thank god I did that!) to try it on, it was WAY too small. The back of it wouldn’t do up – there was a good two inches of space between the panels that needed to be tied together. After tears and panicking, I dieted like a mad woman to fit into it. It would have been too risky to get more alterations done and not be able to test it. Would never want to go through that experience again!

You always find the most amazing stuff at the grocery store!! I love those Rise bars so much, too– I saw them at a local health food store a few weeks back, but they were SO expensive I had to limit myself haha ๐Ÿ˜‰ And umm that nut butter aisle?? PURE AWESOMENESS. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

That dress looks SO cute on you! It’s very pretty. I hope it fits you just fine for the wedding. :) Stick with your goals first though! Those macadamia hershey kisses are AWESOME. whenever my friend (who is in the air force) goes to hawaii, he brings me back like 5 bags. i still have some! YUM!!

  • http://www.myfoodnfitnessdiaries.com/ Ashley

ahhh all of that nut butter is KILLING me!! i think i’d stand in that aisle forever. lol. and girl, you seriously look awesome and so healthy. you could even pack on a few more pounds and look great, so don’t let that dress get you down. my wedding dress ran super small too, so i tried not to even think about the size. and i loooove those Toms! i’ve been eyeing the same ones lately!

  • http://savortherainbow.com/ Min @ savortherainbow

Whoa..I MUST spend some time at the groceries! I usually go with a game plan and just get what’s on my list. But clearly, I’m missing out!! Dark chocolate Stevia is on my list! Dark choco anything’s gotta be amazing, right?
You look lovely in yellow! My wedding colors were sage green and brown. I love your attitude! Even though my goal is to put on some weight, I can’t help but to get discouraged..and sad when I don’t fit into my clothes. You go girl!

  • http://twitter.com/swankydietitian Kristen RD

Wow, so many goodies!! I am loving the sound of the coconut peanut butter! YUM!
Buying anything online is always difficult. Often times I order a size I need and it’s not right! I had a dress that ended up needed taken in for a wedding and then it was TOO tight. It was the worst night cause I could barely breath. I am sure they will be able to work something out.
I love those TOMS! You guys are wearing those with the dress or you are just buying them? I finally spotted them for purchase and I will definitely be ordering them.

  • Gothextramileblog

I don’t think it’s normal how excited I get over the nut butter isle…. lol I’ve been dying to try that peanut coconut spread but I have too many jars already! You look gorgeous!

  • http://www.peaceloveandoats.com/ Katie @ Peace Love & Oats

Ummm Can I just pitch a tent and live in that store?!!? And kudos to you for not worrying about the dress. You should never alter yourself to fit a dress, you alter the dress to fit you! And I wouldn’t be surprised if other bridesmaids are having the same issue… I ordered my bridesmaid dress for my brother’s wedding from JCrew because it was on sale and ordered it 2 sizes too big just in case!

  • http://strengthinfreedom.com/ Sloane

I am OBSESSED with those toms! And I am SO impressed by your strength and unwillingness to back down on your health goals. You’re amazing!

  • http://glitzglamgranola.com/ Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola

Omg that store looks amazing!! All of those types of nut butters sounds like a dream come true! I’m going to be on the lookout for that Earth Balance one- coconut and peanut butter? YUM! And that bar looks so fantastic- I love that there are only 3 ingredients! Those need to come to SF asap! And I’m sorry for the dress stress, that must have been upsetting– though you look adorable in the dress, not being able to breathe is just not an option. I’m sure a seamstress will be able to help though! For my brother’s wedding a few years ago, the same thing happened, despite them telling me to order that size! Luckily, the seamstress let it out and it was fine! I’m sure yours will be the same situation! Have a wonderful weekend! xoxo

  • http://lovemintchocolatechip.com/ anne@lovemintchip

good for you! you have such a great attitude :) you look awesome in that color!

  • Jen Stoll

You must share the location of this wedding!!

    • Stoljenn

Sorry, I meant health food store! I have wedding on the brain!

      • http://www.nourish-and-flourish.net Sara Stewart

Haha! Well, the wedding is in Montana ๐Ÿ˜‰ The grocery store is across from Barnes and Noble; it’s called Natural Grocers, and it’s pretty amazing!

  • http://lisalately.com/ Lisa

Have fun with your mama! I’m sure you are!
You found all my fave nut butters!! I have all those coconut, cashew, and walut haha. Wow. I don’t have that peanut/coconut spread though. That sounds dang delicious.
That aisle is like my dream I could live there and be content in life;)
I love coconut flour “dough”, I call it frosting haha, using the flour and almond milk. So amazing!
I think coconut is the most magical food out there.
I’m so proud that even though the dress is snug, you will not back off your muscle gaining!!
That is a great achievement and I’m sure a seamstress will be able to fix it up for you!
You are amazing! And so beautiful in your yellow dress. Love!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Yaara-Leve/2909647 Yaara Leve

Sarah–you are gorgeous and glowing!! Banana yellow is your color. It is amazing that you refuse to let a stupid dress get in the way of your goals. You go girl!! Those nut butters–omg–I was drooling. And I need to finally try coconut flour. I also have that chocolate stevia–be careful with it though–a little goes a long way–it can be a bit bitter if you know what I mean.

  • http://twitter.com/kailey_x3 Kailey

Do you think your two ingredient coconut cake would work with whole wheat pastry flour? Looks delicious regardless!!

I have to agree with the commenter below me – you look so happy and full of life. Yellow is your color ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • http://www.juliegolean.com/ julie

OMGG i love those shoes!!!!!!!!!!!! and i’m obsessed with jcrew bridesmaid dresses! if i ever get married & have a bridal party they will for sure be wearing jcrew. the dress looks FABULOUS on you and i think its great you’re not dieting to fit into it – girl that seamstress is going to make it work the way you want it to! xox

  • http://thewhaleydaily.wordpress.com/ Mary Legare Whaley

That looks like a super fun grocery store! And those Hershey’s Kisses sound divine. My favorite grocery products these days aren’t terribly exciting. I guess I could point out staples: Sriracha sauce and blue Powerade Zero. Thrilling, I know. I love chocolate with nuts, preferably almonds or walnuts. I’m not married, but I would have an October wedding, and my colors would be shades of orange. Raw silk. My bridesmaids would each have a different dress, whatever is best for their shape. They would be different shades of orange as well, ranging from golden yellow/orange to ruby red/deep magenta. I’ve (fortunately) only been on one wedding. The dress was black with a lime green sash. It wasn’t terrible. I haven’t worn it since, but it was cheap, so I can’t complain! Don’t worry too much about your bridesmaid dress. You would be shocked at what a seamstress can do! I’ve seen someone take in and let out like 4 sizes. I think you’ll be perfectly fine! =)

  • http://livingchel.com/ Chelsa

First of all coconut peanut butter sounds incredible. I would probably eat the whole jar in a weekend.

I’m loving Tanka bites that I tried for the first time the other day. It’s buffalo jerky with dried cranberries in it.

Chocolate with nuts is always the best way to eat chocolate.

For my wedding I want white, champagne, light pink and subtle pops of fuchsia.

I hope all works out for you with the dress. I know it will and it’s good to know that you are not sacrificing your personal goals for a dress. You go girl :-)

  • http://lifeisbetterthanfiction.wordpress.com/ MegLIBTF

I have yet to go in that place! I always drive by and keep thinking I need to. Now you’ve piqued my interest! I LOOVE your dress and I just know that the tailor will do a great job of adjusting it for you. *fingers crossed* My wedding colors were burgundy and brown– just in time for fall. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m not a huge fan of nuts in chocolate, but I do like hazelnuts!
    love!

  • Meg
