Cookies or Ice Cream?

by Sara on May 13, 2012

Happy Sunday! And to all the mom’s out there, Happy Mother’s Day!

Last night I attended an amazing dinner hosted by Chobani (recap coming soon!), and woke up this morning craving—you guessed it—more Chobani. ;) However, when I opened the refrigerator, I realized that I only had 1/4 carton left. I decided to use the last few dollops of yogurt on top of my latest food obsession: a healthy banana split.

I can’t get enough of  these! I usually enjoy one post-workout, but it makes a wonderful breakfast too. :) To make my splits, I drizzle protein frosting and PB2 on top of a sliced banana and then top it with yogurt and granola.

Cookies or Ice Cream?

I’ve seen this “This or That” survey on many blogs, and can’t help but join the fun. But before I get started , I want to share a quick recap from Friday evening.

Cookies or Ice Cream? Is that even a question?

I met my friend, Whitney, after dinner for a mani/pedi at Mimosa. This salon stays open till 11:00 each evening, making it a perfect girls’ night destination spot. Upon walking in the door, we were greeted with a glass of champagne, and invited to soak our feet in the massage chairs.

While we were getting pampered, Whit and I caught up on each others’ lives and made predictions about the upcoming premiere of The Bachelorette (it begins Monday night!).

My roommate Chris says that the color reminds him of the fluorescent vests people wear to avoid being hit by cars at nighttime. Ha! I say that if that’s the case, then those vests are now fashion statements. Tangerine orange is the color of the season, no?  ;)

After our nails were dry, we stopped at Dolcezza, the place where I enjoyed my whole milk cappuccino a few days ago. This time, however, I traded the cup of coffee for a pint of gelato.

I couldn’t decide on a flavor because honestly, they all sounded good! After standing at the counter for five minutes sampling, I ordered Vahrona chocolate, nocciola del piemonte (hazelnut) and lemon ricotta cardamom.

It was even better than it looks. :)

*******

Okay, now it’s time for that survey. Enjoy!

Coke or Pepsi?

I honestly cannot tell a difference between the two! However I always buy Coke products when given the choice because they seem more “classic.” (Yep, I’ve totally bought into their marketing tagline). Rootbeer is my favorite soft drink though!

Lemonade or fruit punch?

Lemonade! You can always find Crystal Light in my pantry, however nothing beats fresh squeezed lemonade, especially when it’s bought from kids selling it at stands in the summer. (I used to be one of them!)

Caramel apple or cotton candy?

Neither. If we’re talking indulgent fair food, I’m going with funnel cake!

Butterfinger or Snickers?

Snickers, because they contain real peanuts, but Reece’s peanut butter cups are my all time favorite candy.

Pudding or Jello?

If I’m choosing based on the amount I’ve eaten in my lifetime, Jello. If I’m choosing based on what I truly love more, definitely pudding! (from scratch, please!). I used to eat a pack of sugar free jello every day. No joke. Those years were not a shining point in my life.  ;)

Turkey or chicken?

Chicken. I think it has better flavor than turkey.

American or Provolone cheese?

American cheese in grilled cheese sandwiches! I rarely buy Provolone, but I always have goat cheese in my house. I also love feta, gorgonzola and gruyere (yep, I like my cheese strong and stinky!). ;)

Crackers or cookies?

Is this a trick question? Cookies, of course! These are my all-time family favorite, but I make these peanut butter cookies when I need to satisfy a craving quickly. :)

Pretzels or chips?

Chips. I love Food Should Taste Good White Cheddar corn chips,  but on special occasions I’ll indulge in the not-so-good for you brands. Check out this plate of Doritos nachos my friend, Tom made for my small group a few weeks ago!

Mexican food or Japanese food?

I refuse to answer this question. ;) I LOVE both! However, Japanese restaurants offer the healthiest options.

Tuna sashimi is one of my favorite foods!

Chinese food or Italian food?

Italian. Not a huge fan of Chinese. The sauces are too thick!

Ice cream or cookies?

Definitely ice cream. I love the real thing most, but frozen yogurt is near and dear to my heart too.

Pasta or pizza?

Pizza! Crispy crust and gooey cheese. Need I say more? Even rice cake pizzas are delicious. ;)

Soda or juice?

It’s been hard to break my soda habit because I love fizzy beverages. The bloat I get after drinking them? Not so much. So, I’ll shamefully answer the question: soda.

Chocolate bars or chocolate truffles?

If it’s chocolate, it doesn’t matter the form. Love it all!

Apples or bananas?

See the first picture in this post. ;) There are many ways I like to incorporate bananas into my meals!

Salad or soup?

Salad in the summer, soup in the winter. Both are great ways to sneak in several serving of antioxidant-rich veggies!

Cauliflower or broccoli?

I love both roasted, but never raw! Pureed cauliflower covered with cheese is one of my favorite veggie dishes to serve friends and family!

Onion rings or french fries?

French fries. Especially sweet potato fries and truffle fries.

Blizzard or McFlurry?

McFlurries when I’m in Europe (they have better add-ins, like peanut M&Ms!); Blizzards in the US. Although I rarely have them because there aren’t any DQ’s in DC!

Fried or poached eggs?

Poached. However this is my latest egg obsession.

Crepes or pancakes?

Crepes! Preferably with Nutella and bananas.

Hashbrowns or roasted potatoes?

Roasted potatoes.

Oatmeal or cereal?

Cereal! I’m slowly but surely learning to like oatmeal though. ;)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I LOVED reading your answers sweetie :) A great start to my day :D I knew what your answer was going to be for the Japanese or Mexican question ;) !!!!! Obviously JAPANESE :D

You are so right. Tangerine IS the colour of the season :) It is on my toes too :D What a great spa to go to for a girls night! I love the sounds of it! We will have to go there for sure! xo

I am so happy you tried different gelato flavours. I obviously love ice cream way more than cookies. I really don’t have a sweet tooth nor do I ever “crave” dessert. But ice cream is pretty much the key to my heart and I can stand the sweet flavours of ice cream for some reason!?

I was at the store yesterday and they were selling candy floss. It smelt so gross. I hate the sweetness of it! I think I have had one bite of it in my life and almost puked. Pure sugar! I never get fair food.

My breakfast this morning was oats and eggies ;)

I can’t wait to share a plate of tuna sashimi with you someday! And we’ll definitely stop for gelato afterwards. :) xoxo

  • http://www.cottercrunch.com lindsay cotter

oh man, i’d have to say both on a lot of these too. Oh and reeses for sure! and salt and vinegar chips!

    • http://www.nourish-and-flourish.net Sara Stewart

Ooh, salt and vinegar chips are delish! Especially the kettle cooked ones. :) Hope you’re having a great weekend! xoxo

  • Julie

Love this! First, your healthy banana split looks amazing! I need to try making one for breakfast sometime. For the protein frosting, do you just mix with water or do you add yogurt, nut butters etc? Which is best? Your tangerine orange nails are hawt…that’s definitely THE color of the season! ;) I’ll choose ice cream over cookies any day, however I think they’re best together! My favorite carnival food is probably fried oreos (don’t judge!) and I ate protein pancakes and fresh strawberries for breakfast this morning!

  • http://twitter.com/AfterDin Caroline

I’ve never had champagne while getting a pedicure – sounds fabulous! Ice cream, fried cookie dough, and greek yogurt pancakes!

    • http://www.nourish-and-flourish.net Sara Stewart

Next time you’re in DC, we’ll go to Mimosa for a champagne/pedi date. :) Happy weekend, Caroline!

  • http://funfoodandfreeweights.wordpress.com/ Alexandra

Haha I’d have to go with both on a lot of these answers too! I totally agree with you on ice cream/froyo over cookies though, there’s just something so darn delicious about cold treats! :)
Hope you have a great day friend!!

    • http://www.nourish-and-flourish.net Sara Stewart

I completely agree! Cool treats, especially in the summertime, are pretty fab! Hope you’re enjoying your weekend, love!

  • http://livingchel.com/ Chelsa

Ice cream over cookies, caramel apples with peanuts and I ate oatmeal. Your healthy banana split looks amazing!!

    • http://www.nourish-and-flourish.net Sara Stewart

Thanks, girl! Caramel apples with peanuts sounds delicious!

  • http://www.stuftmama.com/ STUFTmama

This survey is so much fun! I just checked out that cheesy cauliflower recipe and it looks awesome! Yum! And a healthy banana split is always welcome on my table. ;)

Ice cream always wins; funnel cakes are the best and breakfast this morning was oatmeal. :) Happy weekend!

    • http://www.nourish-and-flourish.net Sara Stewart

Let me know if you try the cheesy cauliflower! It’s one of my favorites. :)

  • Sally

Gosh, so many things to decide on! For starters, it’s Coke, lemonade, provolone, Snickers, Mexican, Italian….not sure about some of the other duos. For breakfast it was a Mother’s Day brunch…too many things to list! :) Wish you were here! xo

  • http://lifeisbetterthanfiction.wordpress.com/ Meg

Oh Sara, we for sure have to get together and cook this summer! Even though I am in summer school I will find the time!! :) I can’t taste the difference between Coke and Pepsi either! But I still would choose Coke if I had the choice. Recently, all the sugar in coke and dr. pepper has started to give me a stomach ache! Have you ever had sparkling water? Sometimes when I’m wanting a fizzy drink, it does the trick for me!

Ooh, cookies OR ice cream? How about cookie dough ice cream?!

    Favorite carnival food? Churros!!

I totally skipped breakfast this morning… bad, bad.

  • Whit

You know, that gelato was just sooo good. And now my fingers and toes are pretty. It really was an awesome evening!

-Cookies. Eternally my downfall. (Cookies ‘n’ Cream ice cream is my favorite flavor, as it were.)

-Elephant ears with honey butter. It’s been years, but they’re so good!!!

Rice Krispies with strawberries. And maybe a TJ’s peanut butter cup because I wanted it. :)

  • http://lisalately.com/ Lisa

Haha, I actually agree with all of your answers except for cereal (I love oatmeal!) and I definitely prefer pancakes over crepes! So happy you enjoyed some lovely gelato this weekend! You can tell your making big strides in conquering some of those challenges! I also loveeee your nail colour! I love that tangerine colour, it is definitely in :)

  • http://swankydietitian.com/ Kristen @ Swanky Dietitian

    Love this!!
I forgot the Bachelorette starts Monday! I can’t wait!!! :)

  • http://amazingasset.com/ Tessa@AmazingAsset

This was a great survey Sara… I am glad people are filling this out, it’s fun to get to know the blogger even better :) I agree with your pancake answer, ice cream/froyo FOR SURE, and favorite carnival food? Hmm something fried- maybe german fries. Haven’t had them in YEARS but I know I like em. Great job with making strides girl!

What a cool salon! Loved reading your answers to all the questions!

  • http://annasadventuresinhealth.com/ Anna

Looks like you had a great weekend!…
-definitely ice cream…with cookie dough :)
    -Nachos! (is that carnival food?!)
-this morning I had oatmeal…simple and perfect for this dreary day.

  • http://www.sweatlikeapig.com/ Tara @ Sweat like a Pig

I love gruyere!! According to Rob, the stinkier the cheese the better it tastes ;) His family is seriously hardcore about cheese. For Christmas, we had cheese Fed X’d from the US, not to mention the wine we had alongside it was poured by a Knight of Burgundy – including one bottle that had only had 10 bottles made ever, most of which went to the royal family!

I’ve only ever had one Blizzard, but it made me glad I don’t live in the US. I think I’d be a bit chunky ;)

  • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

oooh i can’t wait to read about the chobani dinner!
i can’t believe cookies or crackers is even a question! who would say crackers?! hahaha

  • http://glitzglamgranola.com/ Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola

Omigosh that nail salon sounds so awesome! Champagne and open late makes it the perfect girlfriend date! And your gelato sounds delicious!! There aren’t any gelato places around me but when I was in Texas visiting my brother we went a few times! Yum! And I might have to get on board with this survey too! I’m right there with you on the stinky or shall I say fragrant cheeses ;) And ice cream all the way. I do enjoy a good cookie every now and then but ice cream and fro yo are def my fave.
